Well, this week's post lets me share our family's holiday traditions with you. We really only have one, but it's ours & I love it so here goes:
My immediate family consists of me, my husband, our 9-month old son, & our 2nd child (still baking in the oven). Our little family got its start 4 years ago & we've experienced nothing consistent during that time (especially at the holidays). So far, our only established tradition is to buy ornaments for one another. My husband & I can't afford to buy gifts for each other on every occasion AND do other things that we enjoy. So, we don't give each other gifts for our anniversary or Christmas. We only buy something small for Valentine's Day or we opt for a nice dinner out. We do buy for one another's birthdays & we exchange ornaments at Christmas. By cutting back on gift-giving we are able to spend a night or two away from home for our anniversary.
Silly as it sounds, I love our ornament exchange & really look forward to it each year. It is so fun to unpack all of our Christmas decorations & come across those that we've picked out especially for each other. We always date the ornaments' packaging so that in years to come we'll be able to see when we exchanged them. Our children will hopefully enjoy & appreciate our special ornaments, too, even after we're gone.
With a little one here now & a really little one on the way I'm sure we will begin to establish some sweet traditions for our whole family this year. For now, though, the ornament exchange with my husband is my favorite holiday tradition.
Hmmm....wonder what I'll get him this year??

My DH's favorite ornaments are the Star Trek ornaments that make noise - "Shuttle craft to Enterprise, come in Enterprise"
It is a hoot to see people's reaction when they push the button and hear what it says.
Fun memories!!
